Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Analyst (Journeyman Data Scientist) to join our team in providing comprehensive support for the Department of the Air Force (DAF), which includes the United States Air Force (AF) and United States Space Force (SF). This role is critical in supporting the DAF’s information technology audit remediation, sustainment, and financial statements reporting and analysis. The ideal candidate will support the Chief Data Officer (CDO) activities related to implementing a Financial Management (FM) Enterprise Platform. This role involves overseeing data ingestion pipelines, monitoring data quality, and ensuring compliance with the Standard Financial Information Structure (SFIS) and Standard Line of Accounting (SLOA).

Data Platform Operations:

  • Support CDO activities in implementing an FM Enterprise Platform.
  • Assist in overseeing data ingestion pipelines and monitoring data quality.
  • Document and monitor data exchange specifications for acquired systems.
  • Ensure data is presented in a standardized manner throughout SAF/FM.
  • Support data analytics efforts to validate and provide functional advice on products.
  • Establish, implement, and monitor Data Guardrail standards and policies.
  • Ensure FM enterprise platforms create, retrieve, share, utilize, and manage data.
  • Support training sessions and office hours for business users.
  • Create training documentation for onboarding users to FM tools and technology.

SFIS/SLOA Operations:

  • Conduct assessments on SFIS compliance for relevant systems.
  • Develop and update improvement plans to increase compliance with SFIS/USSGL (U.S. Standard General Ledger).
  • Verify system compliance claims and produce reports on compliance violations.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to streamline compliance reviews.
  • Analyze system information exchanges and data dictionaries for compliance requirements.
  • Create project plans and perform SFIS Compliance Reviews.
  • Evaluate systems for SFIS Waivers and prioritize Tier 1 and Tier 2 FIAR systems.
  • Document system interfaces and ensure the inclusion of all relevant data elements.
  • Manage Data Management projects for data standardization initiatives.
  • Share findings with Architecture Teams to assist in reducing IT spending.
  • Attend and support SFIS Data Management Team meetings and summits.
  • Develop SFIS Training courses to increase understanding of SFIS standards.
  • Provide draft presentations related to SFIS compliance work.
  • Update the Defense Business System SFIS Compliance Dashboard.
  • Take detailed meeting notes and perform follow-up activities with stakeholders.
  • Create, load, monitor, and update SFIS Compliance tasks.
  • Conduct analyses to support SFIS mapping efforts of legacy data.

Mandatory:

  • 6 years of experience
  • Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, R), data analysis tools (e.g., SQL, Excel), and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working with the Department of the Air Force or other defense agencies.
  • Strong technical expertise in data management and governance.
  • Experience in developing and implementing data strategies and standards.
  • Experience working with Financial data
